What's Wrong With "Betty Crocker?"

Since I’ve already introduced this path in my latest blog, my mind started going on a jog through other similar topics. Since when was it bad for a woman to cook for her man?! I spoke to this young woman the other day and she told me that she “will never cook for her man,” and that “he would only cook for her.” And I just thought to myself “bitch are you dumb!?”

See that’s the problem, women on their independent streak consider focusing on home life to be some type of degrading experience. But what they don’t understand is that it’s actually a liberating part of life that allows them to gain more control than they would by simply saying “no” to handling home business.

Let me explain…

In our generation (I’m talking to you 80’s babies) it is atypical to find a woman who can cook or at least enjoys it. That shouldn’t be completely frowned upon either because our generation is FULL of ambitious women so therefore it may be somewhat natural that they didn’t have time to learn the tricks of the trade in the home. That’s OK!

Learn! Not only do you make yourself better rounded but everyone knows that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. And if you’re too liberal to worry about the man, think about the children you might have. If you’re too selfish with your personal time to have kids, think about the people you could impress. If you don’t care what people think, at least be willing to be able to cook for yourself. And if by chance you don’t want to do that, well have a great life being fat and unhealthy with all of the bullshit you must be eating! **Keep in mind the title of my blog** Let's Keep It Authentic

I support being a strong independent woman to the fullest extent but for goodness sake please be well rounded! There is no greater feeling than being able to say “I can do it all and when I can’t, I’ll learn.” There’s nothing wrong with taking CARE of your man. There’s only something wrong when you take care of EVERY man. Learn to love you and just choose wisely who you show your love and affection to, and then maybe you’ll never have to say “I will never cook for a man.”

You know I used to be like this and I always said "I aint cookin' for my man, if he want to eat he gon' cook". Luckily, I found a man that enjoyed cooking and I did not have to cook, talk about having it made. After a while though, a part of me felt empty. I sat myself down and got to thinking he role of a woman (and this aint old school). There is something spiritual about cooking to the soul, and from that it passes on to those you cook for. I decided to give it shot one day and began to learn how to cook and started cooking for my man. He was really happy and it showed all over his face. He would thank me at the dinner table and tell me how good it was. It gave me a boost of confidence and it brought us together even more. Sometimes we even cook together and that is really fun! So much can come out of doing the ordinary that we have failed to do. Love your man and learn how to love him. After all, he deserves it right?

I totally agree, my ex and i use to live together and we was chef and I use to think why should I cook at all if he's a chef and a damn good one... but after a while just like Jae I had to re-examine...I mean he was coming home late from work yired and I expected him to cook me a meal... why shouldn't i cook for hims sometimes... now I love cooking I do it almost everyday (unless there are leftovers). There is nothing wrong with pleasing your man, and it doesn't by any means make you old fashioned...

I love the line you said muzik..."there's something spiritual about cooking to the soul, and from that it passes on to those you cook for."
I'm not really embracing outdated ideas but trying to make women understand this connection that happens when we share our God given nuturing side with the people we love. The problem is that some women think every man should be treated special and get cooked a 5-star meal...this isn't true and I gaurantee 100% the fact that both of you ladies took the time to learn and did something different for your men is the very reason they fell a little more in love with ya...
it goes beyond "cooking" <3
